I’m Not A Candidate. I’m Not Campaigning For Any Election For Now. I’ll Campaign Tomorrow —Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has clarified that he is not currently a candidate in any election and is not actively campaigning but stressed that he will take part in campaigns when the time is right, using the opportunity to speak on governance, poverty, and insecurity in Nigeria.

Obi made the remarks while addressing participants at a conference organized in support of Moses Paul, the ADC candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election scheduled for February 21.

Speaking in a video shared by Symfoni TV, Obi explained that his presence at the event was not for campaign purposes but to encourage civic engagement and national reflection.

He expressed gratitude to God for the successful organization of the conference and specifically commended women, particularly mothers, for their commitment to prayer and community support.

Obi assured them that he would continue to explore ways to support their efforts.

Obi also spoke on national issues, arguing that insecurity remains the most visible challenge across Nigeria but insisting that poverty is the root of this problem.

He maintained that reducing poverty would significantly curb insecurity.

He compared Nigeria to the development in Indonesia. He recounted his engagement with Indonesian leaders, noting that their progress stemmed largely from strong measures against corruption.

He stressed that Nigeria is not poor but poorly governed, calling on political leaders to use public funds for public good and condemning the accumulation of excessive wealth through public office.

In his words, "I'm not a candidate, and I'm not campaigning for any election for now, but I'll campaign for election tomorrow.

Today all over Nigeria what you will see is insecurity. What you will see is that things are not working in Nigeria."

"In the north, in the east, and in the west, I said to them, where they see insecurity, I see poverty.

For us to reduce insecurity today, we must pull people out of poverty. The more you pull people out of poverty, the more you reduce insecurity."

"We want God to help us, but please, Nigeria is not a poor country. It is poorly governed. Your first prayer today is that for all politicians, including Peter Obi, may God touch our hearts to use public money for public good."
