Chidi Odinkalu, Nigerian human rights activist and lawyer, has reacted to the video of Abuja’s rising soprano, Ifunanya Nwangene, singing shortly before she was bitten by a snake at her residence.
Odinkalu posted his reaction on his verified X page, expressing grief over the tragic loss.
Recall that Ifunanya, a member of the Amemuso Choir, died on January 31, 2026, after the snake bite. She first sought treatment at a private hospital in Lugbe, but the facility lacked antivenom.
Efforts to transfer her to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, were delayed by transport challenges. At FMC, doctors attempted to save her but had only one of the two required antivenoms.
The Amemuso Choir confirmed her death, describing her as a promising talent whose career was cut short.
Her passing has sparked concern about emergency medical response and the availability of antivenoms in Abuja, with many Nigerians calling for urgent reforms. VIDEO
In response, Odinkalu showed his sadness and wrote: "#Ifunanya… Words fail."
