We promised 3.5m votes to the President, If my hand will be an impediment, I will cut it off–Tenebe

A news report released by Leadership on Friday, February 6, 2026, disclosed that Jarrett Tenebe, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a party with little or no political relevance in the state.

His strongly worded remarks have sparked discussions both online and within political circles. Nevertheless, Tenebe maintained that the APC remains cohesive, focused, and firmly in charge of its affairs.

Tenebe made the comments while reacting to statements credited to Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a former national chairman of the APC and ex-governor of Edo State, who recently joined the ADC.

Odigie-Oyegun had alleged that the APC was becoming uncomfortable due to the growing influence of the opposition party in the state.

In response, the APC chairman rejected the claim, insisting that his party feels no pressure whatsoever.

He argued that the ADC lacks the necessary structure, visibility, and grassroots backing to challenge the APC’s dominance in Edo State.

According to him, the ruling party continues to command broad support and remains the strongest political force in the region.

Tenebe further stated that the APC leadership is more concerned with consolidating its internal structures, recruiting more members, and putting solid plans in place for future elections.

He emphasized that the party is focused on its goals and is not distracted by criticisms or statements from opposition figures.

Speaking on Odigie-Oyegun’s decision to leave the APC, Tenebe described party defections as a normal aspect of Nigerian politics.

However, he pointed out that moving from one party to another does not automatically guarantee political success or mass followership.

He also reassured party members and supporters that the APC in Edo State remains well-organized and united at all levels.

According to him, efforts to mobilize supporters and strengthen party structures across the state are ongoing and yielding positive results.

Reaffirming his allegiance to President Bola Tinubu, Tenebe restated his earlier promise to deliver 3.5 million votes for the President in upcoming elections.

He described the pledge as a personal commitment and vowed to do everything within his power to achieve it.

To stress the depth of his loyalty, Tenebe employed a bold metaphor, explaining that his statement was meant to reflect his strong dedication to both the APC and the President. He clarified that his words were symbolic and not to be taken literally.

He said: “We promised 3.5 million votes to the President. If my hand will be an impediment, I will cut it off. If it is my head, I will cut it off.”

His comments were intended to underline his determination to ensure that the APC records an impressive performance in Edo State during future elections.
