In an interview on State Affairs with Edmund Obilo, a former commissioner in Edo State, Hon Abdul Oroh, stated that he fled Nigeria in 1998 because his life was under threat from the military government of General Sani Abacha.
Oroh said he later stayed in a house owned by Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Washington D.C, USA. He said one day he went to Tinubu's filling station in Washington D.C to ask him for money and Tinubu gave him 600 dollars
Oroh added that Tinubu and Alfred Rewane were major financiers of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).
“Some will say this is just a Kiambu issue. But Ms. Maina is from Murang’a. So, there are deeper dynamics at play,” he said.
Prof. Munene added that a growing trend shows leaders opposing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are facing hostility from the public.
Political analyst Gasper Odhiambo advised President Ruto to reassess his strategy in the Mt. Kenya region, especially the leaders he relies on.
“There is panic within the president’s team. Instead of persuading citizens, they are confronting them, which is not helpful,” he said.
Another political analyst, Mr. John Okumu, said the president should review his allies and remove those who have become a political burden.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Murang’a and Kiambu Women Representatives Betty Maina and Anne Wamuratha respectively, along with Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, were among the president’s allies who were publicly heckled.
Mr. Ichung’wah criticized the culture of publicly booing leaders in the region, saying it is being fueled by leaders opposed to the president and his development agenda.
This comes when, Mr. Gachagua, while speaking in Kirinyaga, said he had stepped aside to allow the president’s meetings in Mt. Kenya on condition that the region receives funding and development projects, while urging residents to ignore leaders he described as political traitors.
“I have launched an operation to remove political traitors from Mt. Kenya. They must all be defeated in 2027. Let us listen only to the president, but he should also be ready to leave together with his allies,” he said.
