I’ve Said Times Without Number That Iyorchia Ayu Is Corrupt, Up Till Now, He Has Never Sued Me —Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has renewed his criticism of internal developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging irregularities and restating his position on zoning during the party’s National Convention held in Abuja on March 29, 2026.

Speaking during a live broadcast on Channels Television, Wike maintained that the party failed to uphold the principle of zoning, insisting that the presidency should have been allocated to the southern region after the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, proposals were made to balance power by zoning the national chairmanship to the north while allowing the presidential ticket to go الجنوب, but these suggestions were rejected.

Wike alleged that the emergence of former PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu exposed deeper issues within the party, including what he described as corruption. He noted that despite repeatedly making such allegations, no legal action has been taken against him.

He also revisited events surrounding the party’s presidential primary, particularly the role of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who withdrew from the race and endorsed Atiku Abubakar.

Wike argued that allowing Tambuwal to make such a declaration during the process amounted to manipulation, as it gave undue advantage after formal proceedings had begun.

According to Wike, subsequent efforts to restore balance within the party, including calls to return the national chairmanship to the south, were ignored. He attributed the ongoing crisis within the PDP to what he described as impunity and a refusal to adhere to internal agreements.

Reaffirming his stance, Wike stated that the demand for a southern presidency remains central to his position, emphasizing that the failure to address this issue significantly contributed to the party’s internal divisions.
