In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Atiku Isa, spoke on the strategic importance of key political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in shaping opposition strength and voter alignment across the country.
During the interview, Isa stated, “Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso must be on the ballot, either as a Senate candidate or Vice President.”
He used the statement to stress that Kwankwaso’s participation in the electoral process is critical to the success of any serious political coalition seeking to challenge the ruling party.
Isa explained that Kwankwaso commands a loyal grassroots following, especially in the northern region, and his absence from the ballot could significantly weaken the influence of any alliance he is associated with.
According to him, political success in Nigeria often depends on the visibility and active participation of influential figures who can mobilize large voter bases.
He further noted that beyond popularity, Kwankwaso’s political structure and long-standing connection with ordinary citizens make him a valuable asset in any electoral strategy.
He argued that positioning him in a relevant role, whether legislative or executive, would ensure that his support base remains energized and aligned with broader coalition objectives.
The NANS president also highlighted the need for careful planning and collaboration among opposition leaders, emphasizing that winning elections requires more than just strong candidates.
He pointed out that unity, coordination, and strategic placement of key actors are essential to avoid fragmentation and maximize electoral outcomes.
He concluded by asserting that the 2027 elections will be heavily influenced by how well political stakeholders manage alliances and leverage influential personalities like Kwankwaso to secure widespread support.
