Lagos: I Went Outside To Get Food,Before I Could Come Inside,They Locked My Brother In Cell-Chiwendo

Confidence Chiwendo, a Nigerian woman has recounted the circumstances surrounding the arrest of her brother by police officers in Lagos, alleging misconduct and procedural irregularities during the incident.

Speaking in an interview with Punch Newspapers, Chiwendo narrated how her brother, who operates a Point of Sale (POS) business, was apprehended by officers who accused him of selling hemp.

According to her, the arrest occurred at his business location, raising concerns about the treatment he received while in custody.

Providing details of the incident, she described her attempt to assist her brother shortly after his detention. “So I went outside to get food.

The food that I bought I brought it inside to give to my brother and before I could come inside, they already locked my brother in the cell.

So I started asking them is that how they do things. All of them pushed me outside saying that I should go that nobody will attend to us because it's already past 7:00 p.m.,” she said.

Chiwendo’s account highlights what she perceives as a lack of due process and humane treatment, particularly her claim that she was denied access to her brother and allegedly pushed out of the station by officers.

The situation has raised questions about police conduct, detainee rights, and adherence to established legal procedures in Nigeria.

Incidents involving allegations of wrongful arrest and harassment by law enforcement officials have remained a recurring issue in the country, often sparking public debate and calls for reforms within the police force.

While authorities are yet to publicly respond to this specific claim, such reports continue to underscore concerns about accountability and citizens’ rights.
