During an interview on News Central TV, Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), argued that the dominance of the ruling party across many states does not guarantee victory in the next presidential election.
Galadima made the remark while discussing Nigeria’s political landscape and the possibility of more governors defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He noted that although the APC currently controls the majority of states in the country, electoral success in 2027 would ultimately depend on the credibility and fairness of the voting process rather than the number of governors aligned with the party.
He pointed out that a few states are still governed by parties outside the APC, including those led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Accord Party, and the Labour Party.
However, he suggested that even if those remaining governors eventually join the ruling party, it would not automatically secure victory for President Bola Tinubu in the next election.
Galadima argued that what would matter most is whether Nigerians are able to vote freely and whether the election process remains transparent.
According to him, “Let all the governors, six of them, plus the president, be in the APC. Once there's a free, fair, and transparent election, I assure you that President Bola Tinubu will not be the president in 2027.”
