During an interview on Trust TV, Chille Igbawua, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), addressed ongoing discussions surrounding the party’s stance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His remarks focused on internal party dynamics and expectations from supporters of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State.
Igbawua emphasized that the ADC remains committed to fairness among its members, noting that the party has consistently maintained a neutral position regarding individual ambitions.
He explained that no aspirant is being given preferential treatment, as the party seeks to provide equal opportunity for all members.
He also reacted to sentiments among supporters of Peter Obi, often referred to as “Obedients,” questioning their stance in light of Obi’s own recent remarks.
According to Igbawua, the ADC’s approach is rooted in inclusivity and a broader national interest rather than predetermined endorsements.
According to him, "ADC, more than any other party, has continued to assure all members that there will be a level playing ground, and that is why the party is not promising anybody anything.
If you want to come into ADC, you come in, and from within, the assurance is that you're going to have a level playing ground for whatever ambition you have. So we don't have any issues.
If Obedients are saying "Obi or nothing else," what did Obi himself say recently? He said I'm not here necessarily for the presidential ticket. I'm here for the interest of Nigeria, and I cannot assure anybody that I'll cleanse the ticket."
