Former member of the House of Representatives, Uche Onyeagocha, has shared his perspective on leadership standards and personal experiences within Nigeria’s political space ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Onyeagocha made the remarks during a live interview on Symfoni TV, where he spoke about governance, public perception, and the criteria for evaluating those in positions of authority.
In his statement, he specifically referenced his past academic experience with Godswill Akpabio, drawing attention to what he described as a lack of distinction during their university years.
He said, “Godswill Akpabio is my schoolmate at UNICAL, and he never distinguished himself in any way,” highlighting his concerns about how leadership is assessed and elevated in the country.
According to him, such reflections raise broader questions about merit, competence, and the standards used in selecting individuals for top political offices.
Onyeagocha further noted that Nigerians must begin to place greater emphasis on track records and proven ability when evaluating leaders, rather than relying on political influence or popularity.
He also advised citizens to remain vigilant and actively engaged in the democratic process, stressing that accountability is essential for sustainable governance.
The former lawmaker maintained that as the 2027 elections approach, political actors and voters alike must prioritize integrity and performance to ensure credible leadership outcomes.
