In a recent video shared on News Central TV, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, public affairs analyst Jide Ojo spoke about the growing divisions within Nigeria’s opposition parties and the challenges such disputes could pose ahead of the 2027 general election.
During the discussion, Ojo stated, “In the PDP, we have the Seyi Makinde faction, and we have the Nyesom Wike faction.”
He made the remark while highlighting what he described as the widespread factionalization affecting several political parties across the country.
He argued that political disagreements among key stakeholders often weaken party structures and create uncertainty among supporters.
The analyst noted that the Peoples Democratic Party has continued to experience competing interests among influential leaders.
He explained that such rivalries could affect the party’s ability to effectively mobilize ahead of future elections if they are not properly managed.
Ojo further observed that similar challenges exist in other opposition parties, with leadership disputes and competing camps emerging in different political organizations.
He warned that persistent internal conflicts could reduce the chances of opposition parties building the broad alliances necessary to challenge the ruling party.
He concluded that political parties seeking electoral success in 2027 must focus on reconciliation, internal democracy, and consensus-building.
According to him, unity remains one of the most important factors that could determine the strength and effectiveness of opposition politics in the coming election cycle.
