Iran Threatens Retaliation After US Strikes As Khamenei Reportedly Urges ‘Death To Israel’ Slogan

According to a report by The Times Of Israel on May 26, 2026, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that it reserves the right to retaliate after accusing the United States of violating a ceasefire through recent strikes in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province.

The United States military said it carried out operations in southern Iran targeting vessels it claimed were attempting to lay mines, as well as missile launch sites.

Washington described the actions as defensive in nature. Iranian media, however, reported that explosions were heard overnight in Bandar Abbas, a major port city in the Hormozgan region.

The IRGC also alleged that its air defence units successfully shot down a US drone and opened fire on another drone and a fighter jet it said had entered Iranian airspace over the Gulf area.

These claims have further intensified already heightened tensions between both countries amid ongoing disputes over regional security.

In a separate development, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, in comments published on his Telegram channel during the annual Hajj pilgrimage period, issued a strongly worded message.

He was quoted as saying: “The clock cannot be turned back, and the nations and lands of the region will no longer be a shield for American bases.”

He further added: “From now on, the slogans ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’ will be the slogans of the Islamic nation and the oppressed people of the world, especially the youth,” according to the statement.

The latest exchange of accusations highlights the growing fragility of the ceasefire, as both sides continue to report military incidents in the Gulf region.
