Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former Minister of Defense and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has declared that the 2027 presidential election will represent a historic shift in the nation's democratic journey.
He asserted that the upcoming polls will serve as a direct confrontation between the aspirations of the general populace and the entrenched political class, signaling a departure from traditional party-line voting across the country.
According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of Arise News on Monday May 11, 2026, while analyzing the current political climate and the failures of various state governors, he stated, “the election of 2027 is going to be unique, it will be between Nigerians and I don't know whether to call them the leaders or operators.”
This observation suggests that voters are now prioritizing competence over loyalty.
The Senator noted that many current political leaders have made significant mistakes by distancing themselves from the people they represent.
He argued that the masses are no longer interested in the empty promises or the distribution of food items often used to buy votes in previous cycles.
Instead, the electorate is seeking a quality of leadership that is determined and committed to providing genuine results.
Kwankwaso emphasized that the current administration and its governors are mistakenly relying on each other for survival rather than building genuine grassroots support.
He pointed out that the economic hardship and rising insecurity have opened the eyes of many Nigerians, making them more determined to change the status quo.
This awareness, he believes, will make the 2027 contest a definitive moment for the nation.
In his concluding remarks, Kwankwaso urged the Nigerian people to be extremely cautious and not be swayed by sentiments or old political tricks.
He stressed the importance of having a credible alternative platform that can truly rescue the economy and restore peace.
He remains convinced that a united opposition will provide the necessary strength to defeat the ruling party and satisfy the people’s yearnings.
