Obi: To Be An Obidient Is To Be Transparent, To Be Accountable, And To Be Honest - Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, has offered fresh insight into the ideals and guiding principles of the Obidient Movement, describing it as a political and civic platform built on transparency, accountability, and integrity.

Rhodes-Vivour shared his thoughts in a statement posted on his official X account on Thursday, May 7, 2026, amid renewed political discussions triggered by recent developments involving former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

His remarks come against the backdrop of heightened political tension following Obi’s reported exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and subsequent alignment with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), a move that has continued to generate widespread reactions across political and social spaces.

The development reportedly surprised many observers and supporters, as Obi’s movement between political platforms sparked debate about loyalty, strategy, and the broader direction of opposition politics ahead of future elections.

In the midst of these conversations, Rhodes-Vivour sought to clarify the philosophy behind the Obidient Movement, which emerged as a strong support base for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.

According to him, the movement is fundamentally driven by values such as openness in governance, responsible leadership, and accountability to the people, rather than personal ambition or political convenience.

He emphasized that members of the movement are united by a shared belief in ethical leadership and the need for greater transparency in public administration.

Rhodes-Vivour also described Peter Obi as an individual whose public service record reflects honesty and transparency, adding that these qualities are consistent with the principles that the Obidient Movement seeks to promote.

His comments appeared to respond indirectly to criticisms that have trailed Obi’s recent political realignments, with some commentators questioning his decisions and accusing him of prioritizing personal political calculations over party loyalty.

The former Lagos governorship candidate, however, maintained that such criticisms would be addressed in due course during an upcoming conversation involving a Labour Party correspondent on the X social media platform.
