According to a report by Vanguard on Monday, May 25, 2026, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has declared that his administration and political associates have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, stating that the decision was taken in what he described as the best interest of Osun State and the broader Yoruba-speaking communities.
The governor made the remarks while speaking during an inspection visit to ongoing road infrastructure projects in different parts of the state.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke explained that the endorsement was guided by considerations that go beyond party politics.
He stated that the decision reflects a sense of regional connection and development interest, particularly because Osun State is considered the ancestral home of the President.
He added that supporting the President’s second term bid was, in his view, a step that aligns with the development priorities of the state and the South-West region.
During the inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation work on the Ilesa-Ife-Ibadan expressway, the governor described President Tinubu as a political leader with strong ties to the region.
He stated that the President should be supported not only on political grounds but also because of shared identity and regional responsibility.
According to him, the relationship between Osun State and the federal government under the current administration has contributed to ongoing infrastructure development projects across key routes in the state.
Governor Adeleke further explained that the endorsement was not based solely on party affiliation or political alignment but on what he described as practical governance considerations.
He stated that his administration has maintained cooperation with the federal government on several development projects, especially in road infrastructure.
He noted that the construction and rehabilitation of the Ilesa-Ife-Ibadan Motorway is one of the major federal projects currently benefiting Osun State and surrounding areas, and he expressed appreciation for the continued federal attention to infrastructure development in the state.
The governor also highlighted the efforts of his administration in improving road networks within Osun State since he assumed office in 2022.
He stated that more than 300 kilometres of state roads have been reconstructed under his leadership, in addition to the rehabilitation of several federal roads within the state’s jurisdiction.
According to him, these interventions are aimed at improving transportation, boosting economic activities, and reducing travel difficulties for residents across different communities in Osun State.
Governor Adeleke added that the state government is hopeful that the federal authorities will soon approve reimbursement for the funds spent on rehabilitating federal roads within the state.
He explained that such financial support would help the state continue its infrastructure development programmes without delay.
He noted that cooperation between state and federal governments remains important for achieving long-term development goals and ensuring that public infrastructure is properly maintained.
He said, “Our administration has also rehabilitated a number of federal roads from 2022 to date.
At the state level, over 300 kilometres of state roads have been reconstructed. We are hoping Mr President will soon authorise payment of a refund for those rehabilitated federal roads."
