Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has extended his condolences to former presidential candidate Peter Obi following the death of Obi’s elder brother, Mike Okaka.
In a public message, Omokri expressed deep sympathy over the loss and offered support to Obi, as well as members of the Obidient movement. He acknowledged the emotional impact of the bereavement and prayed for strength for the family during this difficult time.
In his words, “Dear Peter Obi, so sad to hear this. My heartfelt condolences, sir. My sincere prayer for you and the Obidient Movement is that such an affliction shall not visit you again.”
Omokri also extended an offer of practical assistance, particularly concerning logistical arrangements that may arise following the death, which reportedly occurred in the United States.
He indicated his willingness to support the family, including with possible repatriation arrangements if required.
He added, “Please let me know if there is anything I can do to offer tangible help to the family, and if there are any issues, especially regarding the repatriation of the body back to Nigeria, if such is planned.”
Describing the late Okaka as a dedicated and industrious individual, Omokri noted his loyalty and contributions to Obi’s political movement, stating that his efforts would be remembered.
“Accept my commiserations on the loss of an industrious Nigerian and a loyal friend and supporter in your movement,” he said.
The condolence message has drawn attention across social and political circles, particularly given Nigeria’s often polarized political environment. Observers have noted the gesture as a moment of empathy that transcends political differences.
Omokri concluded by offering prayers for comfort, strength, and good health for Obi as he mourns the loss of his brother.
