In a video shared by TV Platinum, Akpabio described a particularly disturbing incident in which a Nigerian man was reportedly dragged out of a kitchen and killed in South Africa without any justified reason other than his nationality.
He expressed shock that instead of intervening, some bystanders watched the incident unfold and even recorded it on their mobile phones.
He further noted that the situation appears even more troubling in cases where South African security personnel, who are supposed to maintain order and protect lives, are allegedly present at the scene but fail to act while Nigerians are being attacked. According to him, this raises serious questions about the safety and protection of foreign nationals in the country.
Akpabio warned that the recurring nature of these incidents shows that the crisis is beyond isolated cases and may require urgent international attention.
He called on the global community, particularly the United Nations, to step in and ensure that stronger measures are taken to stop the violence and protect innocent lives.
He stressed that no human being should be subjected to such treatment and condemned the culture of violence where people film tragic events instead of helping victims.
Repeating his concern, he said it was unacceptable that a Nigerian could be “dragged from a kitchen and murdered for no reason other than being in South Africa.”
