There's A Gang-up Against APC, They're Plotting To Field Candidates From Our Region - Osoba Warns of Southern Political Alliance Ahead of 2027

Elder statesman and former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba has alleged that some politicians from Southern Nigeria are planning to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to reports, Osoba made the remarks during the announcement of the APC presidential primary results in Abeokuta, where he urged members of the All Progressives Congress not to underestimate the opposition.

The former governor warned party supporters against believing claims that Tinubu has no serious challengers ahead of the next general election.

“There is a strong gang-up against us,” Osoba stated while addressing party members.

According to him, there are alleged efforts to field multiple presidential candidates from Southern Nigeria in a move aimed at dividing votes that would normally favor Tinubu.

Osoba specifically mentioned former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as politicians whose names are being linked to the alleged political strategy.

“Obi has emerged, Jonathan is quietly waiting in the background, and Makinde,” Osoba said.

The elder statesman urged APC supporters to remain united and intensify political mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, the ruling party cannot afford internal divisions or complacency if it hopes to retain power in the next presidential contest.

Osoba also praised President Tinubu for what he described as developmental projects being carried out in Ogun State under the current administration.

His comments came shortly after the APC presidential primary in Ogun State, where Tinubu reportedly secured 322,485 votes across the state’s 20 local government areas, while another aspirant, Stanley Osifo, received no votes.

Political observers say Osoba’s remarks reflect growing political calculations already taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Across Nigeria, discussions surrounding possible alliances, regional interests, and opposition coalitions have continued gaining momentum as major political figures position themselves for future contests.

Supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu believe the president remains politically strong because of his long-standing influence, party structure, and nationwide political network.

However, opposition figures continue exploring strategies that could strengthen their chances against the ruling APC in the next election cycle.

Analysts also note that the possibility of multiple strong candidates emerging from Southern Nigeria could significantly affect voting patterns depending on alliances and regional support bases.

Meanwhile, some political commentators have questioned whether former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is truly interested in returning to active presidential politics, as speculation surrounding his future political plans continues.

As preparations for 2027 gradually intensify, Osoba’s comments have added to ongoing national conversations about political strategy, coalition building, and the battle for influence within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
