Political analyst Jide Ojo has raised concerns over the credibility of figures announced during the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress that produced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s candidate.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ojo questioned several aspects of the results released during the exercise, arguing that some of the figures appeared difficult to reconcile with realities observed during the primaries.
One of the major issues highlighted by the analyst was the result announced for the Federal Capital Territory, where officials reportedly declared that Tinubu secured 36,103 votes.
Ojo stated that the figure raised doubts because many party members allegedly lacked clear information regarding the locations of voting centres during the exercise.
According to him, the uncertainty surrounding the voting process made it difficult to understand how such figures were generated and collated.
He also questioned reports indicating turnout figures above 90 percent in some states, describing such participation levels as unusual, especially in areas where there were complaints about logistics and communication challenges.
Ojo further expressed concern over the speed with which results were announced in states such as Rivers State.
He argued that considering the geographical size of the state and the riverine nature of several local government areas, the rapid collation and declaration of results appeared surprising.
The political analyst compared the APC primary process with elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, noting that official elections usually involve multiple stages of verification and result collation before final announcements are made.
He stressed that his observations were aimed at encouraging transparency and accountability within political parties rather than targeting any individual candidate.
According to Ojo, credible internal party elections remain important for strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system.
In his words, “We Were Told That FCT Recorded 36,103 Votes For Tinubu, I Don't Know Where That Figure Came From Ojo”.
