According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria on Thursday, 11 June, 2026, in a bold and electrifying interview in Washington DC, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), delivered a thunderous message that is already sending ripples across Nigeria’s political landscape.
It doesn’t matter if President Bola Tinubu secures the backing of all 36 state governors for the 2027 election. The will of the people, Obi declared, will triumph over elite machinery.
“I didn’t have a single governor in the 2023 presidential election,” Obi stated with unshakeable confidence, “yet I won in 12 states even after they stole two more from me.
For 2027, it doesn’t matter if all 36 governors line up behind President Tinubu.” The former Anambra governor painted a vivid picture of grassroots strength over political godfatherism.
His 2023 performance remains legendary, polling over 6.1 million votes and dominating in key states without the lavish resources or institutional muscle that others wielded.
Obi didn’t stop there, as he highlighted the fragmented nature of the 2023 results to drive home his point. Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso clinched Kano State decisively.
The three major parties APC, PDP, and Labour Party (now evolving under NDC) each secured victories in 12 states.
With the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment effectively elevating Abuja’s status, Nigeria now operates with 37 entities in electoral terms.
