Veteran Nollywood actor Nkem Owoh has opened up about the downside of being widely known as a comedian, revealing that he sometimes feels hurt when people laugh at him during serious moments.
Speaking in an interview aired by SELAH MEDITATE on Saturday June 6, 2026, Owoh said many people find humor in his words and actions because of his comic reputation, even when he is not trying to be funny.
The actor recalled an incident at a gathering where he was asked to lead a prayer. He said that immediately after saying, "In Jesus' name," some people began suppressing laughter, a reaction he found upsetting.
He said,
"I remember a gathering, and they say I should pray. I just said, 'In Jesus' name,' and people were suppressing laughter and all that. It annoyed me because I don't joke with my prayers."
