Everybody That Attacked Me On This Road Project Lost Their Tickets To Come Back To The Senate— Umahi

According to reports, the Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has taken a swipe at some senators who criticized him over a road project under his supervision, claiming that many of them failed to secure their party tickets to return to the Senate.

Umahi made the remarks in a video shared by Vanguard Newspaper on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Speaking during the event, the minister reflected on the criticism he faced from some lawmakers regarding the execution of major road infrastructure projects across the country.

The former Ebonyi governor stated that those who were most vocal in attacking him over the project eventually lost their bids to return to the National Assembly after failing to emerge victorious in their respective party primaries.

While making the statement, Umahi said he sympathized with them, stressing that their energy would have been better spent supporting and appreciating developmental efforts rather than focusing on criticism.

According to him, the road project in question was designed to improve transportation, boost economic activities, and enhance the living conditions of Nigerians.

He argued that public officials should prioritize national development and encourage initiatives that bring tangible benefits to the people.

Umahi also expressed appreciation to members of the Senate and the House of Representatives who stood by him and supported his efforts since he assumed office as Minister of Works.

He commended lawmakers who, according to him, chose to evaluate the projects objectively and offered constructive support toward their successful completion.

The minister maintained that criticism is a normal part of public service but emphasized that genuine development should always be acknowledged regardless of political differences.

His comments have since sparked discussions among political observers, with many debating the relationship between political accountability, performance in office, and electoral outcomes.

Speaking directly on the issue, Umahi said:

"Technically, everybody that attacked me on this road project lost their tickets to come back to the Senate."
