The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has raised concerns over the bail conditions imposed on former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, describing them as unusually stringent and difficult to meet.
According to a report by The Cable on Thursday, June 18, 2026, speaking on the ongoing fraud case involving El-Rufai, Sanusi noted that although the former governor had been granted bail, the conditions attached to his release had complicated efforts to secure his freedom.
According to him, the requirements have generated widespread public attention and concern among Nigerians closely monitoring the legal proceedings.
The Emir specifically pointed to the nature of the conditions reportedly set by the court, stating that an emir and a senior government official were required to stand as sureties for El-Rufai.
Sanusi referred to El-Rufai as a close associate and expressed sympathy over the situation, emphasizing that many supporters and observers remained concerned about the prolonged process.
Despite his reservations about the bail terms, he urged Nigerians to remain patient and allow the judicial process to take its course.
According to the monarch, legal matters of such significance should be handled with respect for the rule of law and confidence in the courts. He stressed the importance of maintaining calm while awaiting further developments in the case.
The comments have added a new dimension to public discussions surrounding El-Rufai’s trial, which has continued to attract significant attention across the country.
Political associates, supporters, and other stakeholders are closely following the proceedings, with many awaiting clarity on whether the bail conditions will be fulfilled and when the former governor may regain his freedom.
As the case progresses, legal observers say the outcome and handling of the bail process could remain a subject of national interest, given El-Rufai’s prominence in Nigerian politics and public affairs.
