He Just Wants To Be President And That Is Not Good For Our People - David Umahi

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has once again taken aim at former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, questioning what he describes as Obi’s approach to national leadership and his engagement with issues affecting the South-East region.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Umahi expressed concern over Obi’s political ambitions, arguing that leaders must prioritize transparency and sincerity when addressing the people they seek to represent.

The minister suggested that political aspirations should be guided by a commitment to truth and the welfare of citizens rather than a singular focus on attaining power.

According to Umahi, Nigerians, particularly those from the South-East, deserve leaders who are willing to openly address critical challenges facing the region.

He maintained that honesty and accountability are essential qualities for anyone seeking the nation’s highest office and urged political figures to be straightforward about their positions on important matters.

During the interview, Umahi did not hide his frustration as he questioned Obi’s motivations and called on him to be more direct with the public. In his words, “He just wants to be President by all means and that is not good for our people, let us know the truth.”
