I'll Tell You a Secret; On My Way Here,I Picked Up a Newspaper to Read and It Wasn’t Shaking—Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the quality of an access road and four-span bridge linking Bill Clinton Drive to Tungan Madaki in Abuja, describing it as a standard infrastructure project, according to a video posted on Africa Independent Television on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

He made the remarks during the commissioning of the project, using his travel experience to the site as an illustration of its quality.

Speaking at the event in the Federal Capital Territory, Akpabio said the smoothness of the road was immediately noticeable as he drove to the venue, adding that it reflected the quality of work delivered on the project.

According to him, “Let me just tell you a secret. When I was coming on the road, I took up a newspaper to read, and as I was reading, the newspaper was not shaking.

I said, ‘This is a fantastic job.’ On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I'm here to join you in the joy of this wonderful occasion.

A great joy for the president today in the Airport Police District of the Federal Capital Territory to be here to commission access road with a 4-span bridge linking Bill Clinton Drive to Tungan Madaki.”

Akpabio argued that the condition of the road demonstrated the effectiveness of ongoing infrastructure development in the FCT. He maintained that well-constructed roads improve transportation efficiency and enhance the daily experience of commuters.

He further noted that the project forms part of broader efforts to modernize infrastructure within the capital city, adding that such developments contribute to economic activity and improved connectivity across communities.
