ADC chieftain and lawyer Kenneth Okonkwo has disclosed details of what he described as complaints made by an aspirant in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the party’s primary election process.
Okonkwo made the claims during an interview on Channels Television, on Monday, 8 June, 2026, while discussing internal developments within the NDC and criticisms levelled against the party’s leadership.
According to the former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, the information was relayed to him by Obunike Ohaegbu, whom he identified as a House of Representatives aspirant for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency of Anambra State.
The lawyer said Ohaegbu had sent him a distress message outlining concerns about how candidates emerged during the party's primary elections.
Okonkwo used the account to support his argument that some aspirants felt disadvantaged by the process adopted by the party.
Quoting what he said Ohaegbu told him, Okonkwo stated: “Kwankwaso went back to his people and made sure that every constituency produced one candidate so that they will not be scammed but Peter Obi told them that all the aspirants should go into the field.”
Okonkwo suggested that the approach allegedly adopted by supporters of former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso differed from that of Obi's camp, arguing that it provided greater protection for aspirants seeking elective positions.
The ADC chieftain maintained that the complaint formed part of wider concerns being raised by some politicians regarding internal party processes and candidate selection ahead of future elections.
