Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, has reacted to a social media post by a supporter of NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who argued that Nigeria needs a president who would not steal public funds.
The Obi supporter had written: “Even though you don’t like his answers to questions, let’s have a President that won’t steal our common resources. That is not hard na.”
Responding to the post, Olayinka appeared to reference Obi's tenure as governor of Anambra State, alleging that keeping public funds in private bank accounts while medical personnel remained on strike was not the type of leadership Nigeria requires.
The exchange is the latest in a series of political debates involving supporters and critics of Obi, who emerged as one of the leading contenders in the 2023 presidential election and continues to attract strong support ahead of discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections.
Obi's supporters have frequently highlighted his reputation for fiscal prudence and accountability while serving as governor of Anambra State, while critics have continued to scrutinize aspects of his administration and challenge claims about his record in office.
The comments by Olayinka have since generated mixed reactions online, with supporters of both political figures defending their respective positions as political discourse intensifies ahead of the next electoral cycle.
