According to a video on Arise News, on Thursday June 6, 2026, Seriake Dickson, founder and national leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, reminded Nigerians and supporters of the party's candidates that the NDC is the only name that will appear on the ballot paper in 2027, warning that anyone who undermines the party while claiming to support its candidates is working against their own interests.
Dickson made the statement in the context of growing tension between some supporters of Peter Obi, who joined the NDC as its sole presidential candidate, and the party's leadership.
Reports had emerged suggesting that a section of Obi's support base, commonly referred to as Obidients, had been publicly critical of the NDC's internal processes, raising questions about unity within the party ahead of the election.
In his words, Seriake Dickson said, "On the ballot, on the ballot, there is no Peter — on the ballot there is no Kwankwaso. On the ballot it is NDC. Okay.
"But we are working together. He is our presidential candidate and he is a running mate and we are working harmoniously together," he said.
Dickson was careful to affirm that the NDC's relationship with both Obi and Kwankwaso remained strong and functional, describing it as harmonious despite the noise from outside.
He acknowledged that Peter Obi is a cherished member of the party and that the decision to make him sole presidential candidate was made freely and without conditions.
However, he was equally direct in his message to those creating tension from the sidelines.
He argued that the NDC is not merely a platform borrowed by prominent individuals but rather a fully constituted political party with its own structures, leadership, and identity.
Without the NDC as its foundation, he stressed, no candidate can reach the presidential villa. The party and its candidate, he concluded, must therefore be defended and respected equally.
