“Obi Was In APGA, He Couldn’t Build The APGA, He Left APGA, He Came To The PDP - Wike Slams Peter Obi Over Party Hopping, Questions His Political Resilience

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has once again criticized former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, accusing him of lacking political resilience and frequently moving between parties instead of building stable political structures.

Wike made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, June 1, 2026, where he discussed leadership, party loyalty, and the dynamics shaping Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Wike, Obi’s political journey reflects what he described as a pattern of leaving political parties during moments of internal crisis instead of staying to resolve challenges and strengthen the platforms he joins.

He argued that leadership requires endurance, consistency, and the ability to remain within a system even when it is facing difficulties. In his view, a leader must be willing to confront internal disagreements and work through them rather than exiting when tensions arise.

Wike specifically referenced Obi’s past political affiliations, claiming that his movement across different parties raises questions about his commitment to long-term political development.

“Obi was in APGA. He couldn’t build the APGA. He left APGA. He came to the PDP. He ran away from the PDP. He went to Labour. Labour had a crisis. He ran away again from Labour,” Wike said.
