If Israelis Use Chicken For Sacrifice, It's Not Problem, It Becomes Issue If Done In Yorubaland - Ifayemi Elebu-Ibon Defends Yoruba Customs, Says Double Standards Exist in Global Religious Practices

The Araba Olu Isese Awo of Osogbo, Ifayemi Elebu-Ibon, has called for stronger protection and respect for Yoruba traditional religion, urging monarchs and citizens to avoid neglecting indigenous practices in favour of foreign cultural influences.

Elebu-Ibon made the remarks during an interview with Punch Newspapers on May 31, 2026, where he discussed the place of Isese within modern Yoruba society and the challenges facing traditional institutions in contemporary Nigeria.

According to him, many of the practices associated with Yoruba traditional religion are often misunderstood or unfairly criticised, despite similarities with rituals and customs found in other religious traditions around the world.

He argued that there is a clear double standard in how cultural and religious practices are judged depending on where they originate. In particular, he said some practices are accepted in foreign contexts but are criticized when carried out within Yoruba communities.

“If the Israelis use chicken for sacrifice, it's not a problem, but it suddenly becomes an issue if the same act is done in Yoruba land,” Elebu-Ibon said. WATCH FULL VIDEO HERE.
