Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington on June 23, Adeboye maintained that it was unfair to accuse Tinubu of failing in his duties as commander-in-chief.
According to him, once a president issues clear operational directives to the military, the responsibility for executing those orders rests with the armed forces rather than the president personally.
He stressed that the effectiveness of military operations depends largely on those entrusted with carrying out the orders.
Despite defending Tinubu, Adeboye acknowledged that Nigeria’s security situation has become more alarming.
He observed that terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes, once concentrated mainly in the northern region, have now spread to the South, affecting communities previously considered relatively safe.
The respected preacher revealed that he had personally discussed the issue with President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
During the meeting, he urged the president to issue a 90-day deadline to the military leadership, directing them to eliminate terrorism or step aside if they failed to deliver results.
Adeboye also insisted that the financiers of terrorism must be brought to justice, claiming that many of them are influential politicians and wealthy business figures whose identities are already known.
According to him, dismantling their networks and cutting off the supply of weapons and funding would significantly weaken terrorist groups.
He further appealed to the United States and other international partners to strengthen their support for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, stressing that global cooperation remains essential to restoring lasting peace and security across the country.
