Senator Seriake Dickson, founder and National Leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed that he held a three-hour closed-door meeting with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during which both leaders reviewed developments within the party and resolved recent issues that had generated concerns among members.
Dickson made this known in a statement shared on Friday, revealing that Obi visited him alongside other senior leaders of the party as part of ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening unity within the NDC.
According to the Bayelsa West senator, the meeting focused on the activities of the party as well as recent developments that had sparked debates and disagreements among stakeholders.
He explained that discussions were frank and productive, adding that all contentious issues raised during the meeting were amicably resolved.
“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues,” he said.
Dickson emphasized that despite recent disagreements within the party, both he and Obi have remained committed to the broader objective of positioning the NDC for electoral success and offering Nigerians an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, which is winning elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government.
However, a few issues have arisen, and we have agreed on how to handle them moving forward,” he added.
The former Bayelsa State governor also used the opportunity to appeal to party members to refrain from internal disputes, name-calling, and public bickering that could undermine the party’s unity ahead of future political contests.
He assured members that consultations among party leaders would continue in order to address concerns, strengthen cohesion, and keep the party focused on its mission.
“I want to use this opportunity again to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture.
Both His Excellency Peter Obi and I, as well as other leaders and stakeholders of our party, will continue to consult and engage with one another to address and resolve concerns, strengthen the unity and cohesion of our party, and ensure that we remain focused on our shared mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for all,” Dickson stated.
The development comes amid recent debates and tensions within the NDC, with party leaders repeatedly stressing the need for unity as they prepare for future political battles.
Dickson's disclosure is expected to reassure supporters that efforts are ongoing to maintain stability and cohesion within the party's leadership structure.
