The NDC National Secretary Told Me If I Paid N10m, He’d Secure the Position for Me, So I Paid — Ohaegbu

During an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Obunike Ohaegbu, an aspirant for the Nnewi/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat in Anambra State on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made allegations regarding the party's candidate selection process.

Ohaegbu spoke while discussing the controversy surrounding the NDC primaries and the disputes that have emerged among aspirants following the exercise.

He alleged that he was assured by the party's National Secretary that payment of a specified amount would secure his position in the contest.

The aspirant stated that he subsequently made the payment and later reminded the National Secretary of the conversation, providing evidence that the transaction had been completed.

According to him, “We started discussing and I sent him a message and I said, the national secretary of the party, I have also sent this message to him (the national secretary of the party) reminding him that you told me, on 4th of May either 4th of May or 5th of May that if you pay N10 million naira, you will have your position locked for you.

I have also demanded from the national secretary, this is what you told me. I paid 10 million naira.”

He alleged that if multiple aspirants were asked to make similar payments, the credibility of the process would be called into question.

Ohaegbu argued that he was prepared to refund affected individuals as part of efforts to preserve confidence in the outcome of the election and avoid disputes that could undermine his candidacy.

The aspirant maintained that transparency and fairness were essential to resolving the crisis surrounding the NDC primaries, adding that the party leadership should address the allegations raised by aggrieved members and aspirants.
