Tinubu: You Have Broken A Long-Standing Jinx That Held Our Nation Back For Too Long – General Buratai

Former Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he describes as significant progress in Nigeria’s security and governance sectors over the past three years, saying the country has overcome long-standing obstacles that had hindered national development for decades. Buratai made the remarks in a statement released to journalists in Kaduna on May 31, 2026, as Nigeria marked the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration. 

The retired military officer used the occasion to reflect on the country's security situation and assess the impact of the government’s policies since Tinubu took office in 2023.

According to Buratai, Nigeria’s internal security environment has shown encouraging improvement due to intensified military operations across different parts of the country. 

He noted that the Armed Forces have maintained a strong operational presence in regions affected by insecurity, helping to reduce threats posed by terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups.

The former army chief explained that the military has continued to carry out targeted operations designed to address the unique security challenges facing various communities.

He stated that these efforts have contributed to restoring public confidence, strengthening law and order, and improving the nation’s overall security architecture.
