According to the report, confidential documents obtained during the investigation detailed the alleged conspirators' preparations, including the allocation of responsibilities, the use of coded language, logistical planning and discussions on a proposed transition arrangement that would have taken effect if the operation had succeeded.
The investigation reportedly comprises more than 7,400 pages of evidence, including statements by suspects, bank records, handwritten notes, alleged records of secret conversations and other documentary exhibits.
During the interview, he stated, “Buhari would not have done it if he were around. He was furious when he found out. He said, ‘they suspended my man without my permission.’ And a lot of things like that happened.”
The former cabinet minister further explained that various administrative decisions executed during the previous administration occurred without direct approval from the head of state, sparking significant conflict within executive council circles throughout that historical presidential tenure in Abuja.
He emphasized that such unauthorized actions highlighted deep institutional divisions inside the villa, where competing political factions frequently maneuvered to undermine trusted appointees whenever executive authority appeared weakened by leadership absence or illness during major national governance crises.
In his concluding remarks, Lawal stressed that presidential control over cabinet suspensions remains vital for maintaining administrative order, warning that political cabals often exploit administrative loopholes whenever supreme leadership fails to maintain direct oversight over governance in Nigeria.
