TEHRAN, IRAN – Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, will not attend the funeral of his father, Ali Khamenei, due to security reasons, as preparations for the funeral continue under tight security.
The statement was issued by the leader's representative in India, who said the decision not to attend the events was reached after an assessment of the security situation following alleged threats directed against Mojtaba Khamenei.
The move came after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz made a statement claiming that Mojtaba Khamenei was among the targets, prompting Iran to increase security for its top leaders.
