Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Cole said the state's political atmosphere was once filled with hostility after years of violent clashes that claimed lives, spilled blood, and divided many families.
He said the level of distrust between politicians and their supporters was so high that people from opposing parties refused to associate with one another.
To illustrate the situation, Cole recalled one of his earliest experiences after joining politics.
He said he attended a funeral service where APC members sat on one side of the church while PDP members occupied the other, with the church aisle serving as the dividing line. According to him, there was no interaction between the two groups.
Cole said the tension became even more obvious when the PDP governor at the time arrived for the service.
He explained that all PDP members stood up to welcome the governor, while APC members remained seated, despite the solemn nature of the occasion.
In his words, "I went into a church, APC was on one side, PDP was on the other, the aisle was the dividing gap between both parties. One party on this side and the other on this side, nobody was mixing.
And then the PDP governor walks in, all of PDP stands up, all of APC sits down, in church for a funeral service."
