During an interview on SYMFONI, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal said President Bola Tinubu's personal lifestyle did not reflect the image of someone driven by luxury despite frequent public discussions about his wealth.
Lawal explained that from his personal interactions with Tinubu, he observed simple daily habits rather than extravagant living.
According to him, Tinubu was not known for lavish eating habits and often preferred simple meals instead of elaborate dining.
The former SGF also recalled that Tinubu was not particularly concerned about expensive clothing or carefully managed appearances before becoming president.
Lawal said visitors could sometimes find Tinubu dressed casually at home without placing much importance on public image.
Reflecting on his observations, Babachir Lawal stated, “Tinubu Never Lived Like a Man Obsessed with Luxury Despite the Wealth Often Attributed to Him.” He said his personal experience differed from popular public perceptions.
He noted that while Tinubu's wealth has attracted public attention over the years, his personal lifestyle appeared relatively modest during the periods he knew him.
According to Lawal, material possessions never seemed to be the defining feature of Tinubu's daily routine.
He added that his comments were based on his own interactions and observations over several years.
The former SGF made the remarks while discussing his personal knowledge of President Tinubu during the interview.
