Enugu Community Protests After Five Villagers Are Kidnapped

Tension has risen in Ezimo community, located in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, after gunmen reportedly kidnapped five residents and shot another during a late-night attack. 

The disturbing incident pushed women in the area to take to the streets on Saturday, demanding immediate action from the authorities.

According to residents, the attackers stormed the community earlier in the week, abducting several villagers and leaving one person with serious injuries. 

The injured victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

The situation was brought to wider attention by social media influencer, ‘Sen.’ Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, who posted about the attack on Facebook. 

Ugwuanyi, quoting residents familiar with the incident, said a series of recent abductions and shootings have created tension and fear across Ezimo.

In a video shared online, dozens of women were seen marching through major parts of the community, carrying placards and chanting songs that expressed their frustration. 

The women said they could no longer remain silent while their families live under the constant threat of violence.

They also appealed to the Enugu State Government and security agencies to intervene urgently. 

According to them, the latest attack is only one of several incidents that have gone unaddressed, leaving residents feeling abandoned and unsafe.

The protesters complained that criminals now operate freely in some parts of the community, especially at night, while people stay indoors in fear. 

They warned that unless the government strengthens security in the area, more families may be forced to flee their homes.

Community leaders have also called for calm, urging residents to cooperate with security operatives as investigations continue. 

They encouraged anyone with useful information to speak up, noting that early reports can help authorities track the kidnappers and prevent further attacks.

The Enugu State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident, but residents say patrols in the area have been increased since the protest.

The attack has sparked wider conversations about safety in rural communities across Enugu State. 

Many locals believe security agencies need more manpower and support to curb the rising cases of kidnapping and armed violence.

As Ezimo residents await answers, they continue to appeal for quick intervention to restore peace and protect families from further harm.
