“Nigeria Is Bleeding Because Leaders Chose Comfort Over Courage” – Peter Obi Raises Alarm

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has once again sounded the alarm over what he describes as Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.

In a strongly worded statement shared on his verified X account on Sunday night, Obi said the country is “bleeding” because those entrusted with leadership have failed to put the lives of citizens first.

Obi noted that the past ten days have brought some of the most disturbing news in recent times — ranging from terror attacks to kidnappings and large-scale violence across several states.

He said the level of chaos and institutional breakdown witnessed in such a short period should deeply trouble any responsible leader.

According to him, Nigeria’s current situation is not a matter of fate or bad luck. Instead, he blamed years of weak leadership that allowed insecurity and lawlessness to take root.

He lamented that every new day brings a fresh tragedy, making it clear that the country is drifting without firm, compassionate, or competent leadership.

Obi questioned why a nation with so much potential has become trapped in a cycle of fear. He said Nigerians must reflect on how a country blessed with resilient people and natural wealth could collapse into avoidable disorder.

Just as he expressed his concerns, Obi said he received news of another incident — the abduction of 13 female farmers in Askira-Uba, Borno State, by suspected terrorists.

He criticised the government for failing to act decisively, insisting that no serious nation survives under leaders who hide behind excuses and remain disconnected from the suffering of the people. He added that insecurity thrives because those in power have chosen personal comfort over the responsibility of protecting citizens.

Obi stressed that being in government is more than holding a position. It is a duty to safeguard every community, every home, and every child.

He called for leaders who combine competence with compassion, and who show up when it matters most.
