Falana Reacts As Army Releases Names Of Those Who Wanted To Overthrow Tinubu After Denying Coup Plot

Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has reacted after the Defense Headquarters released names of soldiers who wanted to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The reaction of Femi Falana was contained in a report that was published on the official X handle of THE CABLE on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

His statement is coming after the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba released names of 16 soldiers and also declared that they will face a military Court Martial in line with established procedures and extant regulations.

According to report, the officers are Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq, Colonel M. A. Ma’aji, Lieutenant Colonel S. Bappah, Lieutenant Colonel A. A. Hayatu, Lieutenant Colonel Dangnan, Lieutenant Colonel M. Almakura, Major A. J. Ibrahim and several others.

However, in the report that surfaced online, Femi Falana stated that the Nigerian Army has finally admitted that there was a coup attempt after denying it some months ago.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said the military ought to have apologized to the people of Nigeria.

"The military authorities ought to have apologizes to Nigerians. People in authority must learn to take us seriously as a people.

“If you had made a statement three months ago that there was no coup plot and, in the course of your investigation, discovered that the matter went beyond indiscipline, you ought to have apologized to the Nigerian people".
