A former presidential aspirant, Deji Doherty, has warned that the political alliance between former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains critical to stability within the ruling party and the federal government.
Doherty stated that any decision by Wike to withdraw his support for the President could trigger serious political consequences, particularly in Rivers State and within the broader national political space.
Speaking in an interview with TVC News, Doherty noted that Wike’s political influence and grassroots structure have continued to play a significant role in sustaining the current administration.
He stressed that the internal crisis in Rivers State, involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, should not be allowed to escalate to a level that could threaten national cohesion.
According to him, political leaders must prioritise dialogue and compromise over prolonged confrontation.
Doherty warned that a breakdown in the relationship between Wike and the President would not be without repercussions. “If Wike withdraws his support for the President, there is going to be a problem,” he said.
Wike is not just an ordinary politician, he controls a strong political base, and his support has been instrumental in holding certain structures together.
Any miscalculation in managing this relationship could have wider implications beyond Rivers State.
