Rivers Crisis: It Has Been Alleged That These HoA Applied to Ibas for Payment of Their Outstanding Salaries–Warmate

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Daboikiabo Warmate, has spoken strongly against members of the Rivers State House of Assembly following the impeachment notice served on Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

He made the remarks while reacting to appeals by some lawmakers asking their colleagues to step back from the impeachment process.

In a video shared by Viable TV, Warmate alleged that members of the 10th Rivers State Assembly had earlier approached the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), to request payment of their outstanding salaries and allowances.

According to him, the lawmakers have not come out clearly to tell the people of Rivers State whether such payments were made or not.

He said this silence is troubling, especially as the same lawmakers accuse Governor Fubara of refusing to pay them.

He further alleged that the lawmakers have also failed to address reports that each of them received a large sum of money as well as a 2025 SUV.

Warmate questioned whether such benefits, if true, were obtained through legal and constitutional means.

He stressed that public officials have a duty to explain issues like this to the people they represent.

Warmate described the conduct of the lawmakers as disappointing and accused them of putting personal interest above public service.

In his words, "It has been alleged that these assembly members apply to the sole administrator, Ibas, for the payment of their outstanding allowance and salaries; they have not come up to tell Rivers people that yes, Ibas paid or not."
