Seyi:We are Pushing Governorship to 2031, We Don't Want Father as President and Son as Governor-GAC

According to a report from Daily Post on Thursday, January 15, The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) is actively working to postpone Seyi Tinubu's gubernatorial aspirations until 2031, expressing concern that Nigerians would not accept having a father as president and his son simultaneously serving as governor.

Party insiders reveal that while the 40-year-old has shown interest in the Lagos governorship, he has been counseled to prioritize mobilizing support for his father's 2027 re-election campaign instead.

"The party leadership viewed his ambition as a potential distraction to his father's second-term dream, given the growing opposition to the current government," APC chieftain Segun Badejo from Gbagada stated.

A senior APC figure in Ogba, speaking confidentially, explained: "The idea is not to sideline Seyi Tinubu but to ensure he has a more stable runway.

Nigeria may not stand the father as president and his son as governor. The party doesn't want a repeat of 2023 when Labour Party defeated Tinubu in Lagos."

The strategist added that current consensus favors either former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode or Education Minister Tunji Alausa for 2027.

Another consideration involves unresolved tensions in Epe district following Ambode's controversial removal after one term in 2019.

Lagos State's five districts (Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe) have experienced uneven political representation.

Governors from Lagos Island—Tinubu, Fashola, and Sanwo-Olu—completed full two-term tenures, while Ambode from Epe was denied a second term.

Epe stakeholders argue their district has been marginalized and demand completion of their political turn through either Ambode's return or Alausa's elevation.
