According to the report from SYMFONI TV, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his authority as the state’s chief executive, declaring that he remains firmly in office amid the ongoing political tensions in the state.
Governor Fubara made the declaration on Saturday while speaking at a polo tournament he attended in Port Harcourt, where he also took part in the event’s activities.
His appearance and remarks were seen as a strong signal of confidence and continuity in governance despite the lingering crisis.
Addressing the gathering, the governor dismissed speculations about his position and stressed that he was still fully in charge of the affairs of Rivers State.
He explained that his decision to attend the event was influenced by both personal commitment and political circumstances.
“Secondly,” Fubara said, “the President and maybe very few people that are very close to me ambushed me some days ago, and he said if I don’t attend this event, he was going to stop some things he promised he was going to do for us in Rivers State. And I was in between the devil and the deep blue sea.”
The governor added that beyond the pressure surrounding the event, he was motivated by a desire to show solidarity and maintain focus on governance.
“While I originally had a mind to come here for my brother, I said, ‘Okay, let me use one stone and kill two birds,’” he stated.
“And notwithstanding, we must move on. We must carry out our responsibility as government, and we must continue to support everyone who means well for Rivers State.”
