Wike: I Don't Think The President Will Sit Down Again & Allow HoA Members To Impeach Fubara — Haroun

Public affairs analyst Yusuf Haroun has offered insight into the deepening political crisis in Rivers State, following the reactivation of impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

Speaking during an interview on TVC News, Haroun described the situation as a volatile mix of legal contest and political rivalry.

The allegations include failure to present the 2024, 2025, and 2026 appropriation bills, unauthorized expenditure of public funds, and the withholding of statutory allocations.

Lawmakers have also faulted the demolition of the assembly complex and subsequently suspended all budgetary considerations pending the outcome of investigations.

Haroun expressed doubt that President Bola Tinubu would allow the impeachment process to proceed, noting that federal intervention during earlier crises suggests reluctance to permit further political instability in the state.

He added that Governor Fubara’s defection to the All Progressives Congress and his strained relationship with former governor Nyesom Wike have intensified tensions and raised political stakes.

While acknowledging that the allegations carry constitutional implications, Haroun argued that the conflict is largely political.

He warned that prolonged friction between the executive and legislative arms could disrupt governance, weaken public services, and erode democratic norms.

He urged elders, former leaders, and federal stakeholders to pursue discreet dialogue to resolve the impasse, stressing that timely mediation is crucial as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
