In an interview with Daily Independent on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Dr. Alaye Theophilus, President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, has pointed to a recent political event in Rivers State as clear evidence of the governor’s commitment to peace and tolerance.
He referred to the recent tour by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who visited all the 23 local government areas of Rivers State during a thank you outreach, according to Dr. Theophilus, the visit was carried out without violence, threats, or disruption, despite the existing political tension in the state.
According to them, previous ministers served without leaving the system in disarray, stressing that Wike’s tenure has been uniquely destructive.
“Before he came to the city, others had been ministers and they left.”
They further alleged that the damage done under his leadership has affected the effectiveness of institutions within the FCT.
“He came here and destroyed the entire system.”
The workers also questioned the relevance and performance of a commission established to oversee certain administrative functions, arguing that its current operation defeats the purpose for which it was created.
“The commission that was created, if this is how a commission should work, then there would have been no need for it.”
Despite their criticism, the workers maintained that the establishment of the commission itself was not a mistake, but insisted that it must operate in line with its intended mandate.
“But we know the move was right. The commission must function the way it ought to function, in spirit and in body.”
The protest underscores growing tension within the FCT workforce, as pressure mounts on the minister to respond to the grievances raised and address concerns over governance and administrative stability in the nation’s capital.
