I Don't Think Akpabio Should Still Be Senate President, He Should've Been Impeached For Fraud- Opara

Human rights lawyer and activist, Maxwell Opara has stated that in a sane society, the former governor of Akwa Ibom state and current President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio would have been impeached.

This statement was contained in a video that was posted on the official X handle of NEWS CENTRAL TV on Monday, February 9, 2026.

He made the statement while reacting to the controversy surrounding the recent Electoral Bill that was passed by the National Assembly.

In the video that surfaced online, the lawyer claimed that the Senate President has committed electoral fraud.

Here is what Maxwell Opara said:

"I don't think that Godswill Akpabio should still be a Senate President. He should have been impeached for that electoral fraud in Nigeria. You can see how his fellow senators said that's not what they passed. This is a calculated attempt to institutionalize electoral fraud in Nigeria".
