Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has recounted how improvements in telecommunications infrastructure followed his earlier remarks about poor network coverage in his village.
Speaking in an interview on Channels TV, he explained that his past comments about the absence of network connectivity were made several years ago and reflected the reality at the time.
Kalu said the statement recently resurfaced on social media, with some critics interpreting it as opposition to the electronic transmission of election results.
He clarified that the comment was strictly about network challenges in his community and not a rejection of technological advancement in the electoral process.
According to the former Abia State governor, telecommunications providers responded to infrastructure gaps over time, significantly improving connectivity in his area.
He noted that major service providers expanded their presence, addressing earlier concerns about unreliable network access in rural communities.
The senator explained that developments in the telecommunications sector have strengthened the feasibility of electronically transmitting election results across the country.
He stressed that network limitations previously cited in debates have been reduced due to increased investment and expansion by service providers.

Kalu further maintained that his position supports the modernization of Nigeria’s electoral system, adding that improved infrastructure removes many of the technical obstacles once associated with electronic transmission.
His words: "At that time, I said there was no network where I live in the village. After that, I think the Managing Director of MTN and my friend, the Globacom chairman, my guy, they each brought a mast in front of my house. So the thing is working. So there is no excuse anymore. There's coverage now, no body is arguing that."
