Businesswoman Tracy Ohiri recounted her experience with her former lawyer, Festus Keyamo, emphasizing a long-standing lesson about trust and accountability. She revealed that in 2009, she had handled a project in Kano State and had not been compensated for her services.
Seeking legal help, she paid Keyamo N250,000 to manage the case, only to discover that the lawyer did not fulfill his obligations, according to a video posted on YouTube.
Speaking In an interview on the KaaTruths Show, Ohiri used the story to illustrate the importance of vigilance in financial and professional dealings.
She expressed that her past experience with Keyamo shaped her approach to later disputes, particularly with government officials, emphasizing that she would not allow similar mishandling of her resources in the present day.
She recounted how the N250,000 payment at the time was substantial, yet the work she expected in return was never executed.
The incident, she argued, highlighted the necessity for individuals to protect themselves against negligence or exploitation, even when dealing with high-profile professionals.
She noted that the lesson had practical implications for her dealings in the contemporary business and political landscape.
Ohiri stressed that her insistence on accountability, whether from politicians or lawyers, stemmed from firsthand experience of financial mismanagement and betrayal.
The recounting of her story was not only a cautionary tale but also a reflection of her determination to safeguard her interests.
According to her, "I was just recounting, telling Nigerians the story, and I told them that even that time, that was when Festus Keyamo was Festus Keyamo, not the Festus Keyamo of today.
That was when Festus Keyamo was behaving like Sowore; I paid him N250,000 in 2009. Do you know how much N250,000 was then?
Festus Keyamo ate my money; he did not do that Kano state case. So that was the explanation I was giving to Nigerians as to why I'll not allow David to eat my money this time because people were saying, "Leave it for him."
